Carl Mayotte’s new concert will showcase the music from his album Claude. True to the energy and virtuosity that define his group, the performance will introduce a more emotional and introspective dimension. Inspired by two significant life events, including the passing of his father, this music blends nostalgia with release. An experience that will leave you both smiling and tingling. With Claude, Carl Mayotte offers a work that is both intimate and luminous, inspired by two major events in his life: the fire that destroyed his apartment in 2023 and the death of his father in 2024. From these trials emerged music where nostalgia intertwines with the joy of remembrance, carried by a renewed sonic language drawing from contemporary jazz, indie-pop, and today’s English fusion scene. Through this project, the musician pays tribute to his father, Claude Mayotte. Winner of the Félix Award for Jazz Album of the Year at the ADISQ in 2022 for his third album Escale, and recipient of the Radio-Canada Jazz Revelation title for 2020–2021, Carl Mayotte is one of the most prominent young bassists and jazz musicians in Quebec and Canada. Having begun his professional career at the age of 16 and completed a master’s degree in jazz performance at McGill University, his virtuosity and versatility have been praised by numerous musicians and critics, including legendary bassist Alain Caron and the renowned Bass Magazine. |
