Ensemble Callinos embodies the very
essence of lyrical beauty with its captivating blend of flute, cello,
and piano. The name “Callinos” draws inspiration from Calliope, the muse
of poetry, and Linos, the legendary master of the lyre, perfectly
reflecting the ensemble’s artistic mission.
Comprised of the brilliant Edyelwys
Silva (flute), Thomas Chartré (cello), and Jeanne Frenette (piano),
Ensemble Callinos brings to life major works and original transcriptions
for this unique instrumental trio. Their socially engaged approach
ensures that music reaches diverse audiences through innovative and
heartfelt projects. Since their foundation in 2022, they have partnered
with organizations such as Share the Warmth, le Chaînon, and CHSLD
VIGI-Reine-Elisabeth, performing concerts that support and uplift
vulnerable communities.

Edyelwys Silva, flute
Originally from Brazil, Edyelwys Silva
is a flutist performance artist in the greater Montreal area, Canada.
Previously based in Natal, Brazil, Edyelwys held tenure as principal
flutist in the UFRN Symphony Orchestra (OSUFRN) 2010–2015. He actively
subs with numerous orchestras and professional chamber music ensembles
throughout Brazil and Canada.
Mr. Silva obtained his BA in Flute
Performance from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN),
Natal, Brazil in 2013. From 2014 to 2016, he was the acting substitute
flute professor at the same university. He completed a master in Flute
Performance at the Université de Montréal, Canada in 2017, and received the Excellence Award from the jury. He finished his doctorate in Music Interpretation [Doctorat en Interprétation, D.Mus.]
at the same university in 2022 under the tutelage of Denis Bluteau,
Mathieu Lussier and Sylveline Bourion with great distinction.
Mr. Silva is an avid chamber musician.
In addition to his collaborations with various independent chamber music
projects he has attended prestigious music festivals around the world.
He has won important awards and scholarships such as First prize in the
Young Soloist Competition at the Eleazar de Carvalho Festival, 2012
Brazil. Edyelwys was awarded significant scholarships such as the “Christian Lardé and Marie-Claire Jamet, Université de Montréal” and “3 Bourses d’excellence” from the Université de Montréal
during his master’s and doctor’s degrees. Mr. Da Silva was a research
assistant of Mrs. Sylveline Bourion at the same university from 2020 to
2022.
A sought-after and passionate educator, Edyelwys Da Silva has taught with great enthusiasm at the LUMI music school and the Services aux étudiants – Activités culturelles from the Montreal University (Université de Montréal). He was responsible for the Musique pour tous department at the Vincent d’Indy School of Music. Currently, he is a flute teacher at Share the Warmth association in Montreal, an educational advisor and flute teacher at the Vincent d’Indy Music School, and a flute teacher at the Cégep de Sherbrooke.

Thomas Chartré, cello
Cellist Thomas Chartré is passionate about his art.
A skilled performer, he has had the
privilege of playing as a soloist and as a chamber musician in various
ensembles throughout North America, Europe, and Asia. He was invited
numerous times as a soloist with Orchestre de la Francophonie and he
performed in Canadian festivals such as Elora Festival and Concerts aux
Iles du Bic. While being solo cellist of the Hyogo Performing Arts
Center Orchestra during the season 2017-2018, he had the chance to play
Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony with 10 000 singers during the Suntory 10 000
Freude, one of the world’s biggest classical music concerts. During the
spring of 2019, he made his debut at Carnegie Hall playing Dvorak’s
Concerto under Joseph Alessi with the New York Sinfonietta.
He has received recognition for his
playing on numerous occasions. Accolades and awards he has earned
include 1st Prize in the Canadian Music Competition, the loan of the
“Gand Père” cello from the Canada Council for the Arts’ Musical
Instrument Bank in 2015, and the Sylva-Gelber award. In 2016, he was
included in CBC’s 30 hot Canadian classical musicians under 30.
Thomas Chartré possesses a rich musical
background. He earned a Master of Music from both the Conservatoire
National Supérieur de Musique de Paris and the New England Conservatory
as well as a PhD from Université de Montréal. He has had the opportunity
to learn from illustrious teachers including Michel Strauss, Roland
Pidoux, Paul Katz, and Yegor Dyachkov.
Thomas Chartré plays on a Joannes Baptista Ceruti 1815 cello and a Marcel Fétique bow generously loaned by Canimex.

Jeanne Frenette, piano
Jeanne Frenette is a versatile classical
pianist who shares her deep passion for music through heartfelt
performances, aiming to establish a personal connection with her
audience. Her dedication to her craft has earned her recognition in
multiple competitions, gala concerts, and classical music festivals
across Canada (including Grand Senior Champion at the Montreal Classical
Music Festival, 1st prize at the FCMS Concerto Competition, and 2nd
prize at the FCAPM National Composition Competition, among others).
She made her solo debut with the
Orchestre Métropolitain at the age of 15, under the baton of Andrei
Feher, and with the Sherbrooke Youth Symphony Orchestra, conducted by
Hubert Tanguay-Labrosse. Additionally, she was extended invitations on
four occasions to join the OM Préludes, organized by the Orchestre
Métropolitain, as a pianist, chamber musician, and composer.
Admitted to university at the age of 17,
she completed a bachelor’s degree, a master’s degree (with
distinction), and a D.E.P.A. at the University of Montreal under the
mentorship of Jean Saulnier and Jimmy Brière, receiving various
excellence scholarships throughout her academic journey. In the winter
of 2024, she began her doctoral studies in piano performance at the
University of Montreal, receiving an entrance scholarship in recognition
of her outstanding academic record. During this doctorate, she
specializes in the music of composer George Gershwin. Furthermore, she
has refined her craft through various masterclasses and international
workshops with Roy Howat, Geneviève Soly, David Jalbert, Jean-François
Latour, Jose Mendes, and Jérôme Granjon. She was also recently invited
to participate in the mentoring program of the Lanaudière International
Festival, in collaboration with the University of Montreal.
